England may seem to have a lot of bank Holidays to those in Canada. I know I used to think that, but now I’ve realized it was always in the spring t and I never really thought about it the rest of the year. It’s true during spring here in England there are lots of Bank Holidays, there is the Good Friday/Easter Monday 4 day weekend (usually in April), and there are 2 long weekends in May. So it starts to seem like the Brits are slackers come the end of May. However since moving here I’ve found that they actually have less Bank Holidays, and the real problem is the spread.
After the May Bank holiday the next one isn’t until the last Monday in August, then nothing until Christmas! After New Years Day Bank Holiday there is nothing again until Easter. Sadly there is no equivalent to Canada Day which I think it a shame.
Here is the breakdown…
|New Year’s Day – 01 January||New Year’s Day – 01 January|
|Good Friday||Good Friday|
|Victoria Day – 3rd Monday in May||Easter Monday|
|Canada Day – 01 July||1st May Bank Holiday – 1st Monday|
|August Bank Holiday – 1st Monday||2nd May Bank Holiday – Last Monday|
|Labour Day – 1st Monday in September||August Bank Holiday – Last Monday|
|Thanksgiving – 2nd Monday in October||Christmas Day|
|Remembrance Day – 11th November||Boxing Day|
